BGCO announces plans to rename two Clubhouses

Published June 12, 2015 15:13

It is with great excitement that the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa announces its intentions to rename two of its three main Clubhouses to recognize individuals who have made a great impact on the organization and the community.

The Vanier location, currently undergoing renovations at 430 McArthur Avenue, will be renamed the Don McGahan Clubhouse. The late Don McGahan was a long-time school principal of North Dundas District High in Chesterville, ON.

On June 11, 2015, Don’s son Mike McGahan, chief executive of CLV Group, announced a $1.5 million donation to the BGCO from CLV Group and the McGahan Family Trust – the largest single donation in the history of the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. These funds are part of the $3 million raised to complete the renovations of the Vanier Clubhouse. A formal unveiling and naming ceremony will be held in fall 2015.

The existing Britannia Clubhouse at 2825 Dumaurier Avenue in the city’s west end will be renamed the Ron Kolbus Clubhouse. Kolbus was a former City Councillor and Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa Director, and executive at CLV Group. A formal naming ceremony is expected to take place in spring 2016.
